Who we are
Calamus Care was founded on the belief that people deserve mental health care that honors the complexity of identity, culture, relationships, and lived experience.
Founded by Dr. Alhasan Ghazzawi, a board-certified psychiatrist and former director of an LGBTQ+ mental health clinic, Calamus Care specializes in affirming care for LGBTQ+ adults and others navigating questions of identity, belonging, and culture.

45–50 minutesWho we serve
We work with adults whose lives and identities have often been misunderstood, overlooked, or pathologized by mainstream mental health care.
Affirming psychiatric and therapeutic care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, nonbinary, and queer adults, including gender affirming letters, support through transition, and care for those earlier in the process of understanding their identity.
Care for people navigating the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity with cultural expectations, family dynamics, and questions of belonging, including those who are newly out or navigating estrangement.
Care that holds the full complexity of being both queer and a person of color, including the particular grief, resilience, and community that comes with that experience.
For adults carrying histories of relational, developmental, or identity based trauma as well as those navigating loss, grief, and major life transitions, who are ready for care that goes beyond symptom management.
